PennDOT is a customer-driven service organization responsible for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of Pennsylvania's multi-modal transportation system. PennDOT supports over 40,000 miles of state roads and highways and over 25,000 bridges. To effectively move people and goods within a highly industrialized region, the Department has developed an extensive transportation system.

PennDOT has a critical need for highly experienced Professional Bridge Engineers at this time in our Central Office location in Harrisburg. These positions are responsible for addressing complex bridge and system related issues while developing and recommending statewide engineering policies in assigned areas of expertise.

As a Civil Engineer Manager you will be responsible for the management and supervision of professional engineering activities associated with the design, engineering computation, construction, fabrication, rehabilitation, inspection or maintenance of highway bridges and related structures. We are looking for a project-level engineer with a broad background in geotechnical engineering, including a substantial body of work on PA DOT and/or PA Turnpike projects.  Duties will include the analysis, design, and report and specification writing for such infrastructure elements as structural foundation systems, earth retention systems, slope stability analysis, MSE walls, reinforced soil slopes;  planning and execution of geotechnical explorations, including field supervision, drilling contracts, and sampling and testing programs.  Candidates must be licensed in PA and must have a B.S. in civil or geotechnical engineering and ten (10) years of progressively responsible design experience.   The successful applicant will possess strong communication and analytical skills, a thorough working knowledge of PennDOT and PA Turnpike design standards and procedures, and the ability to work with multiple clients and projects simultaneously.  Project management and field experience are a plus.

The main focus will be on leading the Business Line efforts in eastern PA but will also be responsible for coordinating surface transportation pursuits across all of PA. In addition to marketing our surface transportation capabilities the candidate should learn the various URS Disciplines in PA and assist with cross-marketing civil and structural capabilities with other internal Departments/Offices as well as be able to market these services to our private sector clients. URS has been providing civil design and transportation support to our Marcellus Shale and Power Distribution and transmission clients and wants to expand our services further with these clients.

Minimum BS in Civil Engineering with 15 years experience in Surface Transportation. Must have a minimum 6 years business development experience with strong transportation industry connections with all the various PennDOT Districts and Central Office and the PA Turnpike Commission. In addition we are looking for an individual who is actively involved with the DRPA, DRJTBC, City of Philadelphia Streets Department, as well as other local and state transportation agencies.
